I’ve been thinking a lot about a tough question lately: Why is it so rare for African Americans to own assets like stocks, real estate, or businesses? It’s easy to focus on the obvious stuff—like not having enough extra cash to invest or the ways the system has worked against us. Those things are real. But after doing some deep research, I’ve realized there is a bigger issue. For a lot of reasons, many of us just don't believe that building wealth is actually possible for us.
